Warning
Never let vegetable matter such as leaves lay on the deck
surface for long periods of time. Their stains can be very
hard to remove.
Special
There are often situations where stronger cleaning solutions
are necessary but because vinyl has a protective top coating
on it when manufactured it is not recommended to use anything
stronger than a mild soap and water solution. Use of any of
the following solutions for cleaning your vinyl sundeck can
risk the chance of removing this top coating and cause premature
breakdown of the vinyl. This will not be covered by warranty.
“Simple Green” or similar cleaners used for everyday
stains are proven to affect the top coating. Oily and greasy
spots could be cleaned with a strong detergent; paints, while
wet, could be wiped up with paint thinner, gasoline or varsol;
dry paint may require a paint remover or an oven cleaner.
Neoprene glue can be softened and removed with either (cold
weather automobile starter fluid) Difficult vegetable stains
may require diluted bleach or trisodium phosphate, lime stains
from mortar joints or stucco can be removed with diluted muriatic
acid.
Warning
Regardless of the solution being used to clean your vinyl
surface, it should be only briefly applied. Test it first
on a piece of scrap vinyl to be sure it will not remove the
color or otherwise affect the membrane. Most importantly,
flush the area thoroughly with soap and water then rinse with
water only to completely remove any residue. Under no circumstances
are any acids, ketones, turpentines, solvents or other unnamed
chemicals to be used.
Inspection
The only maintenance, other than cleaning, is the inspecting
the caulking used to seal around posts, pillars, corners,
vents and drains. Sometimes the wooden structure to which
the vinyl is sealed, cracks or shifts, and the seal is broken,
Yearly inspection will uncover such problems and your Perma
Deck can supply the proper caulking to fix the problem.
